Roy Coleman age 77, passed away Sunday, May 4, 2025 at his home.
The man. The myth. The coal mining legend!
Roy Darrell Coleman, born April 22, 1948. On May 5, 2025, he received his call. An appointment from which he will not be returning, leaving a void for his friends and family.
He was at home and was surrounded by his devoted family. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Debbie Coleman, and his three wonderful children and his DEVOTED daughter-in-loves. Sarah Bethany Coleman was his precious, loving daughter and a hovering caregiver. (Every day, she never failed to tell him how handsome he was.) Josh and (Marissa) Coleman of Richmond Ky, Jeremy and (Kelly) Coleman of Dana, His grandchildren, Lincoln Brae (Lauren) Coleman of Oil Springs Ky, Abigail Coleman of Richmond Ky, Landon Coleman of Dana Ky, Layton Coleman of Richmond Ky, Baylee Coleman of Dana Ky, great-granddaughter first and only Genevieve Elaine Coleman of Oil Springs Ky. He left two sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Janet (Steve) Looney and Rhoda (Tom) Anderson. Note: When Darrell became ill, sista Rhoda became a caregiver and only left his side at our insistence.
He is survived by nephews, Jeffrey and Neil Coleman and niece, Connie Vanover. He is preceded in death by his nephew , Erin Scott Anderson, two sisters, Carol Tabor and Joyce Frasure and brothers Keith, Larry Doug and Ronald Coleman. He left behind those that he loved so much. Kyle, Jordan, April, Madison, Autumn, Brennan Looney, Eli, Payton and Sharon McFeeley.
He was born to the late Jimmie and Mae Coleman of Rockhouse, Ky. Darrell was a coal operator/miner for forty-five years. He ‘lived and breathed’ coal mining and yearned to go back underground at age 77! A challenge, he called it.
He was also a devoted member of South Mayo Church of Christ for fourty-six year, loving the Lord with all his being.
He was a beloved husband, father, father-in-law, and Pap to all and his wonderful childhood stories will be forever missed, his contagious laughter and sense of humor will never be forgotten.
He was inept with the cell phone, so if you couldn’t reach him, please do not hold this against the man! He loved gravy and biscuits, diet Coke, Little Debbie cakes and Sarah’s cooking, not necessarily in that order.
Revelation 21:4 He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.
