Ola Belois Newsom

Ola Belois Newsom, born Ola Belois Bartley on July 15, 1934, passed away on September 21, 2026.

Ola will be remembered as a devoted wife and mother and as a lifelong nurturer of her family. Her life was also marked by her gifts as a very accomplished poet and artist, talents that reflected both her creativity and her spirit. She was a longtime member of Virgie Baptist Church, a place that was an important part of her life and faith.

She is survived by her son, Michael Newsom, and his wife, Sandy, and by her daughter, Angela Newsom McClain. She also leaves behind her grandsons, John Kalen McClain and Casey Robert McClain, who were an important part of her family circle. In addition, she is survived by her special pet, Charlie, whose companionship brought comfort and joy as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other family and friends who loved her and will miss her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Acie Newsom; her parents, Edgar Bartley and Leona Little Bartley; her brother, Omel Branham; her sisters, Verla Jarrell and Glenda Francis; her infant siblings, Glemalou Joyce and Gennis Lavern; and her best friend, who was like a sister to her, Mildred Bartley.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2026, from 11 am to 1 pm at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 1 pm at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home with Logan Kiser and others officiating.  Burial will follow in the Annie E. Young Cemetery.

Ola leaves behind the memory of a woman who cared deeply for those she loved, expressed herself through poetry and art, and remained faithful to her church and family throughout her life. Her presence will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
