Jack Lucas, 83 , a distinguished funeral director whose life journey was marked by dedication, leadership, and service to his community. Born on April 21, 1942, in Jenkins, Kentucky, Jack passed away peacefully on March 18, 2026, in Pikeville, Kentucky.
Jack Lucas was a man of many talents and unwavering commitment. He was the founder, current owner and funeral director of Lucas and Son Funeral Home in Pikeville, Kentucky. He exemplified compassion and professionalism. His entrepreneurial spirit was evident early on when he founded East Kentucky Chemical Company, contributing significantly to the region’s industry. Throughout his career, Jack also held important roles such as store manager at Maloney's Department Store and Gibsons Department Store, showcasing his adeptness in management and customer relations. Moreover, he was recognized as a leading salesman for Thompson's Chemical Supply Company, a testament to his exceptional skills and dedication.
Jack's life was celebrated by family, friends, and colleagues who admired his steadfast character and kind heart. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Shirley Jean Hopkins Lucas; his sister, Linda Carol Jones; and his granddaughter, Ericka Lucas. Alongside them, numerous nieces, nephews, and a wealth of friends.
Jack was preceded in death by his father, Challie Lucas; his mother, Mary Elizabeth Elkins Lucas; his son, Rick Lucas; his sister, Joyce Ann Elkins; and his brothers Challie Lucas Jr., Eugene Lucas, Willie Lucas, and Johnny Thurman Lucas.
The family invites all who knew Jack to join in honoring his life. A visitation will be held on March 21, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM at Lucas & Son Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow on March 22, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Lucas & Son Funeral Home. Entombment will follow at R. H. Ratliff Cemetery at Shelbiana.
Jack’s contributions to his profession and community, along with his devotion to family, have left an indelible mark. His memory will continue to inspire those privileged to have known him, and his leadership and kindness will remain a guiding light for generations to come.
