Myrtle Smith

Myrtle Newsome Smith, age 84, passed away Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at the Pikeville Nursing and Rehab Center. Myrtle was born on Sept. 2, 1936 to her parents the late Jesse Newsome and Liza Elswick Newsome. She was the wife of the late Monk Smith Jr., a homemaker, and a member of the Union Old Regular Baptist Church. Along with her husband and parents, Myrtle was preceded in death by one son, Rodney Allen Smith, one brother, Jack, and eight sisters, Martha, Dolly, Draxie, Daisy, Rosie, Mary, Nellie, and Dahlia. Myrtle is survived by one son, Kenneth (Linda) Smith, one daughter, Liza (Jeff) Jackson, five grandchildren, Holly (Cory), Kelly (A.J.), Ashley (Zack), Nicholas, and Austin, and three great grandchildren, Connor, Aiden, and Kinsley, and a host of loving family and friends. Visitation will be Thursday at 6p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home. Church services will be Thursday at 7p.m. The funeral will be Friday, May 28, 2021 at 1p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home with Barry Lucas and other Old Regular Baptist Ministers officiating. Burial will follow in the Smith Cemetery at Stratton Fork.
