Mindy Fleming

February 24, 1962 — June 16, 2020

Mindy Newsome Fleming, age 58, of Pikeville, Ky, passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2020 at her home. Mindy was born on Feb. 24, 1962 to her parents, the late Charlie and Ruthie Newsome of Penny Road. She was the wife of Kenny Fleming for 40 years and a loving mother to their two daughters. Mindy wore many hats throughout her lifetime. She worked several years in higher education, including serving as Director of Admissions at Pikeville College. She also worked as a liaison for individuals seeking access to health insurance through the Affordable Care Act — for which her outstanding success was recognized in The Washington Post. Most recently, she worked as administrative assistant at the Pikeville United Methodist Church, a job befitting her servant’s heart. The job she cherished most, however, was that of mother to her two girls. A Christian with steadfast faith, Mindy was a member of the Jubilee Christian Assembly of God where she led the women’s ministry and was a member of its senior ministry. She embodied the spirit of Christ in every facet of life. Along with her parents, Mindy was preceded in death by three brothers, Millard, Teddy, and Jonas Newsome. In addition to her husband, Mindy is survived by two daughters, Whitney Elysse (Mitch) Copley of Nashville, Tenn., Holly Kaitlyn (Weston) Lindsey of Pikeville, three brothers, Tivis Newsome of Richmond, Randy (Lesley) Newsome of Morehead, Scottie Newsome of Pikeville, three sisters, Clara Bartley of Robinson Creek, Brenda (Don) Kiser of Robinson Creek, Carolyn (Arnie) Harmon of Little Robinson, and a host of loving family and friends. Visitation will be Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home. Church services will be Thursday and Friday at 7 p.m. The funeral will be Saturday, June 20, 2020 at 1 p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home with Randy Damron officiating. Burial will follow at Newsome Cemetery in Virgie. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children in Mindy's memory, a charity dear to her heart.
