Lorene Potter, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on July 9, 2026, at Pikeville Medical Center at the age of 99. Born on January 9, 1927, in Letcher County, Lorene’s long and vibrant life was defined by her unwavering love for her family and her deep-rooted connections to her church and community.
Throughout her 99 remarkable years, Lorene stood as a cornerstone for those who knew and loved her. She was the cherished daughter of James Wynn and Lura Wampler Wynn, both of whom preceded her in death. Lorene shared her childhood with her siblings, and though she now joins her late sisters Beula Hibbitts, Avonell Glenn, and Margaret Ibara, as well as her brothers John Harold Wynn and Charles Douglas Wynn, she leaves behind her dear sister, Willa Ann Boggs, to cherish her memory.
Lorene found lifelong companionship and love with her husband, Reed Potter, whose memory she honored after his passing. Their union was blessed with two devoted daughters, Jill (Terry) Potter Morgan and Shawna (Jimmy) Potter Crum, and one son Reed (Misty) Potter JR., who survive her. Lorene’s nurturing spirit, steadfast values, and heartfelt guidance shaped her family’s lives in ways that words can scarcely convey.
As a grandmother, Lorene’s warmth and generosity radiated to her grandchildren: James Brandon Crum, Joshua Reed Crum, Jeremy Dean Morgan, Christi Shawn Ratliff, Dustin Reed Potter, Ethan Garrett Potter, and Michael Joseph Potter. Their lives were enriched by her knowledge, her wisdom, and the loving example she set each day.
Lorene’s journey was not one defined by grand gestures but by the quiet dignity, kindness, and strength that she exhibited throughout her life. Her home was a place of comfort, her words a source of encouragement, and her presence a gift to all fortunate enough to know her.
