It is with heavy hearts and profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Lona Ruth Newsome Johnson who left this world on May 15, 2026, at Pikeville Medical Center. Born on August 16, 1949, in Pike County, she lived a life marked by dedication, kindness, and a deep commitment to her community.
Lona devoted many years of her life working as an Operating Room Technician at Pikeville Medical Center, where her skill and compassion touched the lives of countless patients and colleagues. Her professionalism and gentle spirit were a beacon of comfort during difficult times.
Throughout her 76 years, Lona was a pillar of strength and love to her family. She was the beloved wife of the late Paul Johnson, whose memory she carried close to her heart every day. Her roots were at her home of Robert and Beatrice Newsome. She was also a cherished sister to Stella Hamilton, now departed, as well as to her living brothers, David Newsome and John Michael Newsome.
Lona's family was her pride and joy. She is survived by her two daughters, Jessica Johnson and Greta Ratliff, who carry forward her legacy of love and resilience. Her spirit lives on in her grandsons, Austin Ratliff and Isiah Young, who brought immense happiness and light into her life.
A woman of quiet strength, Lona found joy in the simple blessings of life and the warmth of family .
Visitation to honor Lona’s memory will be held at Lower Toler Church of Christ, located at 1816 Toler Creek Rd, Harold, KY 41635. The visitation will take place on May 18 and May 19, 2026, beginning at 6:00 PM and concluding at 10:00 PM on each day. Her funeral service will follow on May 20, 2026, at 1:00 PM, also held at Lower Toler Church of Christ, with burial to follow at Newsome Branch Cemetery at Penny Road.
Rest in peace, dear Lona. Your legacy of warmth, care, and devotion will never be forgotten.
