Lexie Johnson

     Lexie Sowards Johnson age 101 (6 months-1day) U.S. 23 South Pikeville, Ky., passed away Tuesday, November 19, 2024 at her home.  She was born at Beefhide in Pike County, Ky., on Sunday, May 20, 1923 to the late Robert Lee and Pricy Newsome Sowards.

     December 16, 1940 she was united in marriage to George Franklin Johnson.  Her beloved husband for 68 years 4 months, and 3 days, having preceded her in death on April 19, 2009.  She was also preceded in death by two sons, Gwendel Johnson on May 29, 2015, Garla Edwin Johnson, April 29, 2016, one and granddaughter Teresa Johnson Libby.

      Her brothers and sisters that preceded her in death were Ira Sowards, Bertha Sowards Mullins, Pearl Sowards Powers, Monnie Sowards Tackett, Tivis Sowards, Archie Sowards, Ivory Sowards, Romeo Sowards, and two sisters that died as infants, May and Phyllis.

     She is survived by her family:  Georgia Lee, Mrs. Jeffery Scott, Garol jo, Mrs. Gary Compton, Garla's widow, Linda Baker Johnson, Gregory and Sue Hall Johnson, Garnie and Vickie Howard Johnson, George and Kathy Bentley Johnson, also the mother of two of her grandchildren, Deborah Ward Johnson. She is survived by 18 Grandchildren, 31 Great-Grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.  All of whom she loved dearly and was so very proud (as she said) of my beautiful family.

     She is survived by her sister, Bolenia, Mrs. Homer Scaggs, Olvie Gene Sowards, and Robert Sowards. 

Visitation will be Thursday at 5p.m. for family and  6p.m. for the public at the Shelby Valley Church of Christ.  Church services will be Thursday at 7p.m. with George Johnson officiating.  Visitation on Friday will begin at 5p.m. for family, 6p.m. for public and church services will be Friday at 7p.m. at the Shelby Valley Church of Christ with Greg Johnson officiating.  The funeral will be Saturday Nov. 23, 2024 at 1p.m. at the Shelby Valley Church of Christ with Phillip Johnson officiating.  Burial will follow in the Johnson Family Cemetery.
