Lee Layne, age 95, passed away Monday, December 5, 2022 at his home. Lee was born on August 5, 1927 to his parents the late Julius Layne and Malinda Thacker Layne. He was the husband of the late Fannie Smith Layne, a retired coal miner, and a member of the Cedar Bottom Old Regular Baptist Church at Kimper. Lee also served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Along with his wife and parents, Lee was preceded in death by one daughter, Eileen Varney, one son in law, Lester Varney, six brothers, Burlin, Joseph, Emery, Perry, Vanis, and Thomas Layne, and one sister, Lillie Mae Layne. Lee is survived by four children, Madeline (Paul) Coleman, Ronnie (Melissa) Layne, Kathleen (Eddie) Pugh, Geraldine (Clifton) Preece, one sister in law, Frances Layne, eleven grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, and a host of loving family and friends. Visitation will be Tuesday at 6p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home. Church services will be Tuesday and Wednesday at 7p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home. The funeral will be Thursday at 12 Noon at the Cedar Bottom Old Regular Baptist Church at Kimper with Teddy Honaker, A.B. Thacker, Harold Coleman, Doug Thompson, Dale Williamson, Jon Jr. Thacker, Dan Thacker, Paul Huffman, Jerry Overstreet and others officiating. Burial will follow in Layne Cemetery at Kimper.
