It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Lawson J. Thacker, who departed this world on November 10, 2025, at the Pikeville Medical Center. Born on March 20, 1949, to his parents the late Ruey "Hobe" Thacker and Bertha Armita Thacker, in Shelbiana, Kentucky, Lawson lived a life full of joy, resilience, and love, leaving behind cherished memories that will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends.
Lawson was a beloved brother and uncle, known for his warm spirit and compassionate nature. He is survived by his brothers, Howard Thacker and Arkie Kinney, who stood beside him through thick and thin. He is also fondly remembered by his sister-in-law, Ocie Thacker, who admired him deeply. Lawson will be sorely missed by several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces, great-great nephews, and a special nephew, Donnie Thacker, who shared a unique bond with him.
Preceding him in death are his brothers—Billy Clayton Thacker, Jerry Mar Thacker, Eugene Thacker, and Lonnie Jim Thacker—along with his sister, Velma Thacker Kinney. Their memories are woven into the fabric of Lawson's life, each influencing the man he became and the way he loved those around him.
As we remember Lawson, we celebrate a life that brought light to countless moments shared with family and friends. His wit and kindness left a lasting impact on those fortunate enough to know him. Lawson dedicated his life to uplifting others, finding joy in the simplest of things and nurturing rich, meaningful relationships that transcended time and distance.
A visitation to honor Lawson will be held at Lucas & Son Funeral Home in Pikeville on November 13, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, followed by church service at 7pm, with Timothy and Jason Adkins officiating, a funeral service the following day, November 14, 2025, at 11:00 AM, also at the funeral home. Family and friends are invited to come together to pay their respects and share in the remembrance of a truly extraordinary man.
