Joseph Harold Johnson, age 54, of Litchfield, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 31, 2025 at Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He was born on September 4, 1971, at Hillsdale Hospital and was one of two beloved sons born to James Johnson and Nina (Ashton) Johnson. He was adored and spoiled by his grandparents, whom he loved dearly, as well as Joe and Roxi (Kelly) Johnson, who preceded him in death.
Joseph, or “Joe” as he preferred to be called, graduated from Homer High School in 1990. He was always making others laugh and enjoyed playing football. Joe married Tammy (Stanley) Johnson on August 27, 2001, and together they had four beautiful children. Joe worked alongside his dad at Amerigas in Coldwater, Michigan, for many years. He enjoyed his job and especially loved that he and his dad were able to ride to work together from time to time. He was well known throughout the area, and many have shared stories of Joe delivering propane, working on furnaces, and always being the first to help someone in need. Joe was someone people easily got along with. He had a very easygoing, down-to-earth personality and loved to joke around and laugh. He truly had a smile that could melt hearts and a genuine heart of gold. Joe Johnson was a devoted father, husband, brother, and family man whose presence meant more than words can ever express. No matter how tired he was, he always showed up for his family. You could always find him cheering his kids on throughout sports and throughout life. He was a very hard worker who made sure his children had the absolute best life possible. He gave them everything he could and never showed how much he had to suffer to make it happen. There was no amount of armor that could withstand the battles he fought. When he wasn’t working, Joe loved CB radio, flying and building model airplanes, golfing, hunting, and fishing. He was an avid fisherman and taught his kids how to fish, golf, and play poker, which he also enjoyed playing with friends and family. Joe will always be remembered for his one-of-a-kind heart and his endless love for his family. He had a special way of making a bad day brighter by telling a joke and flashing that giggle and smirk that was so contagious to all those around him. He is gone from us far too soon and will be missed more than words could ever express. He will be carried in our hearts forever.
Joe was preceded in death by his mother, Nina (Ashton) Risk, and his grandparents, Joe and Roxy (Kelly) Johnson.
Joe is survived by his wife, Tammy (Stanley) Johnson, and his four children, Roxanna Johnson, Joe Johnson, Carl Johnson, and Cheyenne Johnson. His father, James Johnson, and his brother, Jason (Cassie) Johnson. His five grandchildren, whom he absolutely loved, are Natalie, Trinity, Aurora, Bella, and Brooklynn. He cherished all of his nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
