Georgianna Ray, 70, of Caney Highway, Kentucky passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 22, 2026.
Georgianna Ray, known affectionately as Ms. Ray to the hundreds of students that she taught over the years, was a kind and selfless soul who found great joy in caring for others. She was always willing to lend a helping hand, offer a kind word, or simply be present for those who needed to talk. Her life reflected her deep and abiding faith, which she lived out daily through her actions and her service to others as a devoted member of Energyville Freewill Baptist Church.
Born on September 5, 1955, Georgianna was a graduate of Virgie High School. She went on to further her education at the University of Kentucky. After receiving her undergraduate and master’s degrees, she dedicated her career to teaching.
Georgianna began her teaching career at Dorton High School, where she taught mathematics and served as the faculty sponsor for the cheerleading team. She had an outstanding ability to connect with her students, encouraging them both in the classroom and beyond. Following school consolidation in 1990, she continued her career at Shelby Valley High School, where she remained a cherished teacher until her retirement in 2008.
Georgianna is remembered for her kindness, her generous nature, and the meaningful influence she had on people’s lives. Her family, friends, and generations of students loved her, and she loved them in return. Her legacy of compassion, faith, and dedication to others will continue to live on in all who knew her.
Georgianna is preceded in death by her parents George and Blanche “Ruthie” Ray, and brother-in-law Paul Deskins. She is survived by her sister Phyllis Deskins, nephew George Huffman (Nikki), great-nephews George “Manny” Huffman and Lachlan Huffman, Uncle Noah Newsome, special cousins Rebecca Newsome, Mark Newsome, Kim Newsome (Florence), Andrew Akers and Ruthie Akers, and several family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
