     Gail Sowards Reed, age 84, passed away Monday, April 29, 2024 at the Pikeville Medical Center.  Gail was born on Feb. 29, 1940 to her parents the late Fonso Mullins and Verna Smallwood Mullins.  She was the wife of the late Phillip Sowards, he was the father of her children and love of her life.  Gail was a homemaker and an avid gardener as well.
    Along with her husband and parents, Gail was preceded in death by her second husband, Jerry Reed, and four brothers, Tony Gerald, Gary Blaine, Dale Creig, and Lowell Reid Mullins.
     Gail is survived by three children, Kristal (Jon) Hughes, Steven (Kelli) Sowards, Kelli Susan (Dennis) Blackburn, one brother, Stoney Mullins, two sisters, Regis Lynne Mattingly, Sherry Gwynn Bundy, five grandchildren, Jessica Henry, Stacey Franck, P.J. Sowards, Taylor Sowards, Mason Blackburn, three great grandchildren, Sawyer, Saylor, and Mallory, and  a host of loving family and friends.
     Visitation will be Thursday at 6p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home.  The funeral will be Friday, May 3, 2024 at 11 A.M. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home with Jim Patton officiating.  Burial will follow in the Mullins Cemetery at Dorton.
