Bessie Newsome

Bessie Newsome, age 97, of Little Creek, Pikeville, passed away Thursday, Feb. 4, 2021 at her daughters home. She was born on May 19, 1923 to the parents of George Anderson Newsom and Mary Elizabeth "Lizzie" (Anderson) Newsom. She was the youngest of 14 children. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by all of her siblings, husband, Emmit Newsome, daughter, Shelby Yvonne Harmon, grandson, Richard Allen "Ricky" Harmon, her sons-in-law, William E. "Bill" Friend, C. Clifford Harmon, and Kermit H. Smith. She is survived by one son, bobby A. (Joanna) Newsome of St. George, Utah, two daughters, Sherril C. Smith of Little Robinson Creek, Virgie, and Geraldine "Gerri" Friend of Little Creek, Pikeville and one step son, Tom Branham of Asheville, Ohio, seven grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic there will be only graveside services on Saturday, February 6, 2021, 1:00P.M. at the Rob Newsom Cemetery on Little Robinson Creek.
