Angela Lea Johnson went home to be with her Savior on October 21, 2025. She was 52 years old. She passed suddenly after suffering from a pulmonary embolism.
Angie was born on October 17, 1973, the daughter of Edwena Boyd and the late Gary Lee Boyd. In addition to her father, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Christopher Doug Johnson and by her father-in-law, Roland Johnson.
She grew up in Pikeville surrounded by a large and loving family and many friends, many of whom she knew from her days at Robinson Creek Elementary, Virgie High School, and Shelby Valley High School.
At a young age, Angie was baptized into the Christian faith at Buckfield Freewill Baptist Church, where she was a long-time member. You may remember how sweetly she sang in the choir and the many times she helped with vacation bible school, bringing to life many characters. While she made her home in Hixson, TN she was also a member of Green Pond Baptist Church.
Angie was married to Christopher Doug Johnson until his death in 2022. Although their time together was too short, she considered him the love of her life.
For many years, Angie was in the dental field, which was so perfect as she always loved to bring a smile to everyone’s face. Most recently on her return to Pikeville, she became part of the wonderful staff at OVP Health.
Angie loved to travel and took every chance she could to see new places, whether it was on a family vacation, a girls’ trip, or even a solo trip to places she’d always dreamed of visiting. She especially loved the beach and the ocean.
Angie leaves behind a host of family and friends, including her mother Edwena Boyd, sister Kim Groemling (Kent), mother-in-law Judy Johnson, sister-in-law Jessica Ellis (Brian), brother-in-law Brian Johnson (Lisa), niece Kate Groemling, nephews Konnor Groemling and Bryson Ellis, and stepchildren Alex, Kailey and Hannah Johnson.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 26, after 5 PM at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 27 at 11 AM at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home with Bruce Sawyers officiating. Burial will follow in the Annie E. Young Cemetery.
Angie endured many struggles and tragedies in her life, but she always wanted to spread love to those around her. She would want us to remember her with a smile.
