Mertie Hackney

Mertie Varney Hackney, age 85, passed away Sunday, May 4th, 2008 at her residence. Mertie was born on December 5th, 1922 to her parents the late Cleveland Varney and Mary Honaker Varney. She was the wife of the late Finis Hackney, a homemaker, and a member of the New Zion Freewill Baptist Church. Along with her husband and parents, Mertie was preceded in death by wo sons, Clifton and Clinton Hackney, six brothers, and one sister. Mertie is survived by three sons, Estle L. Hackney Carl Hackney, Charlie Hackney, two daughters, Jewel France, Julia Wolford, one brother, Jonah Bevins, one sister, Mae McCan, twelve grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and a host of loving family and friends who will miss her dearly. visitation will be Monday at 6p.m. at the New Zion Freewill Baptist church at Big Rock, Va. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the New Zion Freewill Baptist church at Big Rock, Va. The burial will follow in Mountain Valley Memorial Park at Big Rock, Va.
